These days its very easy to be an author of a self published book! In the old days it was really tedious to get a book published. You have to surely write some great content, find a publisher who is willing to publish it and get your book published. Surely, it sounds easy on paper but traditional publishing is really a long and tedious process.

These days with a lot of self-publishing platforms, it is relatively easy to publish a book. You need to have great content and understand how these self-publishing platforms work. If you know all these, then surely you can get the ball rolling.

Process to write an e-book is relatively simple. Here are its steps:

1. Figure out the topic and niche on which you are willing to write.

8. Get a cover. Many people concentrate so much on the content that they forget about a cover page. It is said that 'A book is judged by its cover'. So make the cover very relevant and attractive. The fact that you have reached this step shows how persistent you are. So be a little more persistent to get a good cover. If possible try to hire someone to make a good cover for you.

9. Publish the book.

10. Now start marketing your book. This is an important step since people will not know if you have launched anything relevant. Spread awareness between your friends and family. If possible, run a website and start promoting your book there. Join some forums and promote there. The options are endless, however be consistent with your marketing efforts too.

You might be wondering now 'how one makes money through ebooks?' Well the answer is through commission earnings. Once you upload your book to these platforms they are available for sale. Once a copy is sold; you get a share of the sale. It could be anything between 30 to 90% of the book price. So let's say you get a commission of 70% and you price your book as $10. If one copy of your book is sold then you will make $7 and the publishing platform will keep rest of $3 as their platform fee.

This way you don't need to go through the hassle of managing the platform. You just need to ensure you provide quality content. Below mentioned are some dos and don'ts on how to produce quality content.

Dos:

1. Research your topic and subject well before writing the e-book.

2. Write in clear and simple language.

3. Don't overstuff the book with irrelevant information.

Don'ts:

1. Don't publish your book without formatting. Check the formatting before publishing! Personally, I have come across a lot of e-books that weren't formatted correctly. Result: I stopped reading them after a couple of lines. If you have compelling content then don't be lazy while formatting the book.
